This painting depicts my father’s childhood home on Sandy Island, South Carolina—where he was born, and where my ancestors were once enslaved. The island, accessible only by boat, holds generations of history and survival. Every two years, our family returns for a reunion, gathering on the land passed down through formerly enslaved families. The house still stands—a symbol of legacy and resilience. This piece honors the strength of my lineage and the quiet power of what endures.
