Luminance Art Studio

Luminance Art Studio is the creative home of Katrina “KT” Tidwell, a bi-racial multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersections of identity, emotional wellness, ancestry, and self-discovery. Through abstract composition, symbolic imagery, and layered storytelling, the studio honors both personal truth and cultural memory.

Every piece is created with intention—rooted in the light we inherit, the wounds we tend, and the beauty we choose to reveal. At Luminance Art Studio, art becomes a way to see ourselves more clearly and hold space for transformation.

The Artist

Katrina “KT” Tidwell is a bi-racial multidisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of identity, memory, emotional wellness, and generational legacy. Born to parents from Lubbock, Texas and Sandy Island, South Carolina, her creative voice is shaped by the tension and richness of dual heritage.

KT came to her art practice later in life, following a period of personal transformation that allowed her to reconnect with long-held creative instincts. Through layered abstraction, symbolic imagery, and intuitive color, she creates work that is both deeply personal and widely resonant—inviting viewers to reflect on visibility, healing, and the ongoing journey toward wholeness.

She currently lives in Henderson, Nevada with her husband Sean, their son Cordell, her mother Peggy, and their dog Max. Her family and Southern roots are woven into her process, offering both grounding and inspiration. At the heart of her work is a desire to tell stories that honor complexity and illuminate the light we carry within.

My Practice

My art practice is a reflection of my ongoing journey to understand identity, belonging, and personal freedom. As a bi-racial woman with deep Southern roots, I carry a heritage shaped by resilience, complexity, and duality. Growing up, creativity was something I often set aside in favor of what was expected—achievement, performance, structure.

It wasn’t until after undergoing weight loss surgery that I gave myself permission to rediscover who I truly am. Becoming an artist wasn’t a decision—it was a return. My work reflects my emotional landscape: sometimes bold and assertive, other times quiet and fragmented. Painting allows me to process what words often can’t express.

My work explores the tension between visibility and invisibility, personal truth and cultural legacy. It is a way to reclaim light, one layer at a time. At Luminance Art Studio, I create from that space of becoming—with reverence for what I carry and hope for what I continue to uncover.
